June 3, 2016 - The Milky Way over Wupatki

Bill Burke, Padraig and I went to Wupatki picnic area last night and enjoyed some truly dark skies. Here is a composite of the Milky Way rising over a nearby cinder cone taken without a light pollution filter for a change. This is a 2 x 2 minute stack shot with a modifies Canon 6D at ISO 3200 and Canon 50 mm f/1.8 lens at f/5.6.

June 2, 2016 - Supernova in M66

Here is my image of the SN in M-66 taken last night (June 1) with the C-14HD at f/7 LPS-P1 filter stack of 2 x 3 minute exposures at ISO 3200. Seeing was quite poor unfortunately. The SN has clearly faded since first discovered.

Milky Way Rising over Flagstaff

May 31, 2016 - Milky Way Rising over Flagstaff

I enjoyed an exceptionally dark sky a few days ago and captured the following image of the Milky Way rising over my southern horizon. This is a mosaic of 2 x 4 stacked 1 minute exposures with the modified Canon 6D, Astronomik CLS filter and a Canon 40mm f/2.8 wide angle lens, shooting at f/4.5 and ISO 6400.

Miraculously too, no airplanes of satellites streaking across at 1 am!
