Asteroid 2014 J025 April 19, 2017

Here is a shot of the asteroid passing through Draco last night. The brightest star is epsilon Draconis, and the asteroid trail is in the lower left corner. The photo was taken at 11:03. The exposure was 1 min through the 120 mm at prime focus (f/8.3) and ISO 3200. The asteroid passes through Coma Berenices tonight, and will be next to M64 just before 11 PM. Sky&Telescope online has a detailed map. I did not spot the asteroid in the scope. Tonight I will try to spot it with the 12.5".

Here are two addition images I obtained at AZ Sky Village last week under superb sky conditions.
  1. The awesome globular Omega centauri shot with my AP155 apo at f/5.5, cropped and enlarged.

  2. The summer Milky Way rising shot with a Canon 40mm wide angle lens and IDAS LPS-V4 filter
All images are stacks of multiple frames taken with a Canon 6D

Jeff, Jim, Kwang and I spent a wonderful few days and nights at Arizona Sky Village last week to observe and image under very dark skies and a gorgeous setting. Although sky conditions varied from superb to scary (one nasty T-storm), we had a great time.

I have attached two images, both taken with an AP-155 Starfire apo at f/5.5 with a modified Canon 6D, shooting at ISO 6400 through an IDAS LPS-V4 filter under excellent seeing and transparency. The first is the Cone or Christmas tree nebula complex in Monocerus. Note the small comet like feature at bottom left, Hubble's Variable Nebula. The other image is of Centaurus A (NGC 5128) a most unusual galaxy.

I finally enjoyed an hour or so of pretty good seeing around sunset Tuesday night and managed to capture some decent web cam images of the Moon. All were taken with the C-14 HD at f/11 with the ZWO AS1 120 camera shooting in monochrome through a deep red filter. Each final or mosaic is a combo of the 10% best images from AVIs of 1200-1500 clips, combined in AutoStakkert and processed in Registax.
